Wartime scenography for the Eurovision Song Contest organized in a kind of bunker which is the Kiev metro station transformed into a television studio for the event which was broadcast live. Metro stations in Ukraine are among the safest places and have been used as bomb shelters since Russia invaded the country on February 24.
Ukraine has chosen pop duo Tvorchi and their song “Heart of steel” was the first to be confirmed for the next edition of the singing competition to be held in 2023 in Liverpool.
“We will try to do everything to present Ukraine with dignity,” said one of the band members, Andrew Hutuliak. During their performance the dancers wore gas masks while nuclear warning signs and lyrics appeared on the screens such as: “Don’t be afraid to speak your mind”.
This year’s edition in May was won by the Kalush Orchestra of Ukraine, therefore it would have been up to Ukraine to host the event, but considering the ongoing war, the event will instead be held in the United Kingdom.
