Some Whatsapp users on Android have recently noticed that theapplication uses the microphone more than it shouldeven when it’s not in use. The reports have started in the last few weeks and seem to be related to a bug.
The first reports are come from the PinikaWeb site last week, but some report that the situation has been going on for more than a month.
In confirmation of this, some have posted microphone usage history, which can be viewed through the Android privacy dashboard in the latest OS versions. Engineer Foad Dabiri noticed that on his Pixel 7 Pro Whatsapp activated the microphone in the background nine times even when the phone was idle because he was sleeping.
The same reports also came from other Pixels and from various Samsung models.
Whatsapp, given the clamor of the report, has published an official response on its Twitter account stating that this is a bug in Android: The privacy dashboard would incorrectly attribute microphone access to the app. Meta also said it had asked Google to investigate the matter.
In the meantime, yesterday the indication arrived that it will soon be possible to modify the messages sent on Whatsapp: the feature would now be in the launch phase.
