Pedaling to recharge your devices, such as tablets and smartphones? In Holland it is becoming reality. Let’s see what was thought up in the central library of Utrecht.
Although perhaps not as aesthetically suggestive as the library in the form of an open book, the library in the town of Utrecht, which as we know is now internationally known for having inaugurated a few years ago the largest bicycle parking in the worldstill tries to get noticed .
It was precisely in this city that the idea of a totally green service was born that uses real ones bicycle-charger stations inside the central libraryin which people have specific spaces to study and relax while exercising.
The idea of exploiting pedaling to produce electricity is by no means easy to apply on a large scale, however, this initiative aims convey a concrete message of circular economy especially in a decidedly critical period for consumption.
Holland is apparently making great strides in this regard. Just think of Amsterdam and the proposal of a few years ago exploit the energy accumulated by electric bicycles to then transfer it to the street lamps thanks to smart racks connected to the public lighting system.
Bike-chargers represent only the latest example demonstrating how “soft” mobility facilitates ecology. In fact, if everyone pedaled like in Holland, the world would save 686 million tons of CO2 emissions per year. We therefore just have to take an example from a country in which the number of cars on the road continues to decrease and the road to green is all downhill.
